Traumatic memories get locked in the brain.
And when that happens, they never really go away.
The memories and their painful effects keep “popping up” in your life, even long after the trauma itself is gone. It “shows up” regularly as…
A general uneasiness…
Nightmares and flashbacks…
Invasive thoughts that won’t go away…
Troublesome behavioral patterns that you can’t seem to change…
Fortunately, there’s a way to “unlock” and reprocess those memories.
Those disturbing life experiences weren’t “coded” or “integrated” properly in your mind. That’s why they keep coming up, affecting your life in the present.
That’s where Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) comes in. It’s a way of gaining access to those traumatic memories, unlocking them, and “reprocessing” them so they no longer cause you distress.
We’ll use various non-invasive methods (like eye movements) to stimulate both sides of your brain as we gently probe into the memories that continue to trigger your mind, body, and emotions. Almost like your rapid eye movement (REM) during sleep, this action unlocks those memories, allowing them to connect to the adaptive parts of your brain.
The painful memory is then “reprocessed.” That doesn’t mean you’ll forget what happened, but it takes the pain and power out of those memories.
EMDR is a powerful tool!
In fact, it’s an evidence-based treatment for many psychiatric disorders, mental health problems, and somatic symptoms – most notably post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
A vast range of adverse experiences from childhood, adolescence, and adulthood are located on a spectrum of trauma, so they can be addressed, healed, and resolved by EMDR.
While there are no certainties or guarantees with any therapy, EMDR can work more quickly than traditional talk therapy.
Finally… something to look forward to!
EMDR can bring back your confidence and independence!
Self-healing activation…
EMDR taps into the brain’s natural capacity to heal by reprocessing distressing memories, letting you resolve trauma without reliving it intensely.
Reduction of symptoms…
By alleviating intrusive thoughts, emotional pain, and physical symptoms, EMDR helps you regain control over your emotional well-being.
Self-affirming beliefs…
EMDR replaces negative beliefs (e.g., “I am powerless”) with positive, empowering ones (e.g., “I am strong”).
Skill-building…
The process enhances self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience, equipping you with tools for future challenges.
Active participation…
Taking hold of your healing process fosters a sense of agency and control.
It’s time to regain control of your life!
